How to Manage Multiple ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot Accounts in Chrome

23 October 2026

We have written guides on juggling multiple email, Instagram and Discord accounts. The newest version of the same problem is AI. Most people who use an assistant for work now have at least two logins for it, and the rules about which one to use are stricter than they were for a second Instagram.

Why you end up with more than one

  • Work and personal. Your employer pays for a ChatGPT Team or Claude seat with its own data policy. Your personal subscription is for everything else, and the two must not mix.
  • Clients. Agencies and freelancers often get a login inside each client's workspace, so that client's data stays in that client's account.
  • Free tier limits. Less defensible, but common: a second free account when the first one hits its daily cap.
  • Different tools per job. Copilot because it's in Microsoft 365, Gemini because it's in Google Workspace, Claude or ChatGPT by choice.

Whatever the reason, the browser only knows one login per site at a time, and switching is slow and easy to get wrong. Here are the options, strictest first.

Option 1: Chrome profiles

A Chrome profile is a completely separate browser: its own cookies, its own logins, its own extensions and history. Make one profile for work and one for personal, and the work ChatGPT can never bleed into the personal one. This is the right answer when a company policy or a client contract demands isolation.

The cost is friction. Each profile is its own window, your bookmarks and extensions have to be set up twice, and flipping between them is a trip to the profile menu rather than a tab switch. People who need the separation live with it. People who don't tend to drift back to one profile within a week.

Option 2: One account per browser

A cruder version of the same idea: Chrome for work, Edge or Firefox for personal. It needs no setup and the mental model is obvious. It also means two of everything, and the personal browser rarely has your tools in it.

Option 3: Incognito for the odd one out

If the second account is occasional, an incognito window is the quickest way to sign in without touching your main session. Nothing persists, which is the point and also the catch. Every visit is a fresh login.

Option 4: One profile, organised with Spaces

Most AI apps now let you switch workspace or account from inside the app, the same way Gmail does. If that's true for yours, you can stay in one Chrome profile and let the organisation happen in Switch rather than in the browser's account machinery.

Make a Space per client or per context. Open the assistant inside that client's workspace and leave the chat in that Space. When you switch to another client's Space, those chats are tucked away and the other client's come back exactly where you left them. Spaces organise tabs. They don't separate logins, so the rule you keep is that this client's chats live in this client's Space, opened in this client's workspace. Pin the assistant once as a Favourite and use the app's own account menu for the rare occasions you need to change which account is signed in.

This is the lightest option and the one most people settle on, because it matches how the apps themselves want to be used.

Keep work data in the work account

This is the part that didn't apply to a second Instagram. Most employers now have an AI policy, and the common rule is simple: company and client information goes into the company account, never into a personal one. It comes down to the contract. Business plans usually come with commitments about training and retention that personal plans don't.

So whichever option you choose, make the work account the easy one to reach. If the work assistant is a Favourite in the dock and the personal one isn't, the lazy path is also the compliant one.

A daily routine that holds

  • Morning: open all Favourites in one click. The work assistant, inbox and calendar are up before you have decided anything.
  • Per task: switch to the client's Space. Its chats and documents are already there.
  • When a chat matters: rename it inside the app, so search finds it later.
  • End of day: let Inactive Tabs clear the ones you stopped using, or let Auto-tidy park them in a Space.

Install Switch for free to get Spaces, Favourites and tab search. It won't log you into two ChatGPTs at once, nothing can, but it does make keeping them apart a habit.
